Willa Cather’s Santa Fe
My signature tour! In this 2.5-hour walking tour, we explore Cather’s visits to Santa Fe in 1925 and 1926 that inspired her to write her “best book” (her words), Death Comes for the Archbishop. Available via Airbnb Experiences and Viator, for either a public tour or private group.
Santa Fe’s Historic Railyard
On this 2-hour walking tour, we make our way along the historic railroad tracks, sidings, and warehouses as we explore how the railroad changed Santa Fe when it arrived in 1880 - and how this vibrant arts and historic district has become Santa Fe's "living room." Available via Airbnb Experiences (public tour) or private group.
Habitat & Hydrology of Upper Canyon Road
On this 2.5-hour easy hike, we explore the habitat and hydrology of Upper Canyon Road around Two Mile Pond, Santa Fe's former reservoir, to learn about deforestation and overgrazing, habitat restoration, and where Santa Fe gets its water. Available as a private group/private tour only; contact me for availability.
Mayhem and Moonshine in Prohibition-era Santa Fe
On this 2-hour walking tour, we explore Santa Fe's Prohibition past, when liquor was outlawed but citizens continued to bootleg and imbibe during the "noble experiment" of 1920 - 1933. Great for groups! Happy hour follows at a nearby locale (cash bar). Available via Airbnb Experiences (public tour) or private group.
Jewish History of Santa Fe
A ninety-minute walking tour of downtown Santa Fe that explores the history of the Crypto or Hidden Jews; the German Jewish merchants who came down the Santa Fe Trail, and the many Jews who worked on the Manhattan Project. We end with happy hour in Julia’s at La Posada de Santa Fe, home of the historic Staab House. Available for private groups.
LGBTQ Santa Fe
Created for Santa Fe Pride in 2022, this 2-2.5-hour walking tour explores the people who helped make the City Different such an inclusive city. We start at the Plaza, home to Pride since 1988, and explore the history of Nina Otero-Warren and her partner Mamie Meadors, Ford Ruthling, and Witter “Hal” Bynner, and many historic sites in between. Available for private groups.
Stargazing
Ever since serving in the U.S. Army, where we had to find the North Star to calibrate instruments, I have been fascinated by the cosmos. The dark skies near Santa Fe allow us to see the Milky Way and learn about how many cultures have interpreted the stars. Guests can take home images on their smartphones thanks to my Unistellar Equinox 2 telescope. Available for private groups. Note the minimum fee for two people is $300, and $50 per person after that.
Historic Downtown Santa Fe
On this 2-2.5-hour walking tour of downtown Santa Fe, we explore the architecture, art, culture, food, and history that make the City Different what it is. We can also add in a wee bit of shopping. Available for private groups.
